Stone & Brick Repair

Chipped bricks, cracked stone and crumbling masonry are often caused by frost damage, impact, movement or simple age. Rebuilding is expensive and disruptive — and matching old bricks or stone is notoriously difficult. Our specialist repairs rebuild the damaged area in place and colour- and texture-match it to the surrounding masonry for an invisible result.

We repair spalled and frost-damaged brick faces, chipped and cracked natural stone, damaged window and door cills, quoins, plinths and decorative stone features. The repair is built up, shaped and finished to match the profile, colour and texture of the original, then sealed to weather naturally alongside the surrounding surface.

Whether it is a single damaged brick on a house front, a chipped stone cill, or a weathered feature on a period or listed property, our repairs preserve the character of the building while avoiding the cost, mess and colour-matching problems of a full rebuild.

Specialist stone and brick repairs cost a fraction of full masonry rebuilds, and avoid the near-impossible task of sourcing matching bricks or stone for older or period properties. A single damaged gate post can cost over £1,000 to rebuild — a professional repair is a fraction of that.

Repair vs. replace — why it makes sense

Before spending thousands on replacement, consider what a professional cosmetic repair actually delivers.

Spalled brickwork is caused when moisture penetrates the porous face of the brick and freezes in cold weather, causing the surface to break away. Left untreated, spalling spreads as each freeze-thaw cycle removes more material. We rebuild the face of the brick using specialist repair mortars that match the original texture, colour and porosity — and seal the repair to resist further moisture ingress.

Somerset, Devon and Dorset have a rich tradition of local stone construction — Ham Stone, Beer Stone, Portland Stone and local rubble are all commonly found in buildings across the region. Each stone has its own colour, texture and porosity characteristics, and we have experience working with all the local varieties to achieve colour-matched, sympathetic repairs that sit naturally alongside the original material.

Impact damage to brick and stone is particularly common on driveway gate posts, garden wall corners and property boundaries where vehicles make contact. We rebuild the damaged area to the original profile, matching the bond pattern, mortar joint colour and surface texture so the repair is undetectable once the mortar has weathered.

How it works

A straightforward process, from first contact to finished repair.

  1. 01

    Assess the masonry

We examine the damaged brick, stone or cill in detail and confirm the repair approach. Many stone repairs are quoted from a clear photo sent via WhatsApp or email.

  2. 02

    Prepare the surface

Loose and friable material is removed, the area is cleaned and the surrounding masonry is protected. We ensure the substrate is sound before repair begins.

  3. 03

    Rebuild and match

The damage is rebuilt layer by layer using specialist repair mortars and compounds, shaped to match the original profile and colour- and texture-matched to blend seamlessly with the surrounding masonry.

  4. 04

    Sealed to weather naturally

The repair is sealed with a breathable consolidant that allows the stone or brick to breathe naturally, preventing future moisture damage while hardening the repaired surface.
